Biographical data on Albert Edward Dease and the Dease and Gingras families, 1927-1960.

Biographical manuscripts documenting the Dease and Gingras families, Irish and French Canadian traders, politicians, and pioneers, who lived in the Red River Settlement and Pembina County, North Dakota (1850s-1960). Written by Albert E. Dease, they include data on the lives of his great great grandfather, Dr. John Dease, who emigrated from Ireland around 1771; his great grandfather, John Warren Dease, and great uncle, Francis Michael Dease; his two grandfathers, William Dease, who moved the family to Pembina in 1876, and Antoine B. Gingras, who operated a Red River ox cart line between St. Joseph and St. Paul and who served in the Minnesota territorial legislature in 1852-1853; and his father, Alfred Dease. They contain numerous references to early traders, Catholic missionaries, Native American and Metis leaders, and prominent pioneers in both the U.S. and Canada, particularly Norman W. Kittson and Louis D. Riel. He also includes a photograph of himself and autobiographical notes.
